Abstract: This thesis covers work on quantum algorithms on multiple disciplines, always with the aim of deployment on near term quantum devices. Quantum algorithms for quantitative finance, cryptography, optimization and signal processing are discussed, and deployed on quantum platforms such as photonic chips, superconducting annealing machines and ion trap systems. Each platform informs the quantum algorithms in a different way, and the modifications needed for deployment are highlighted. Moreover, a quantum middleware environment, Qibo, for the simulation, deployment and calibration of quantum devices is also presented.
