The course will present the Binary Population Synthesis (BPS) code binary_c.
This can simulate large populations (>millions) of single and binary stars which different metallicities, star-formation histories, initial-mass functions etc. to give you statistics suitable for projects as small as individual star comparisons to computing cosmological gravitational-wave mergers rates.

The stellar evolution and binary interactions are obtained from either analytic fits to or interpolated from detailed stellar-evolution model grids which we will discuss. binary_c also provides nucleosynthetic yields for the populations, including supernovae, thermonuclear novae, dredge-ups and stellar mergers.

The course will focus on presenting the capabilities of the code, providing case studies using binary_c-python which you can use to develop your own populations of stars containing both single and binary stars.
